Nesting & Grouped Work

Save time and material with Grouped Work

Flexibility to group work at any step. Sales, engineering, production.

Demo fulcrum

Group work any way you want

Filter by operation, material type, machine, due date, customer, and more to see efficient ways to group work.

Once grouped, work stays together during production. Actual costs are divided proportionally across each job, giving you accurate job costs and profit margins.

Nesting recommendations

Nest Planning identifies cutting operations across jobs with the same material, machine, and thickness, highlighting opportunities to nest work together so you can save setup time and material.

Once grouped, Fulcrum combines DXFs into a packaged download to upload into your nesting software, then reimports the nested items, ready for production.

Nest while quoting to cut material costs

Quote more competitively with rapid material usage estimates. Upload a DXF file directly on a quote to generate a nest and automatically update material cost estimates.

Designed for fabricators

Upload nests from any nesting software

fulcrum reads any nest file and import expected yields, run times, material needs and nest images — reducing data entry and setting you up for more accurate job costs.

Share nests with the shop floor

Operators can see nest images, materials needed, and add remnants back to inventory — improving the communication between shop floor and office.

What type of operations can you group?

Cutting operations are the most commonly grouped work, but you can group any work by operation, sales order, or due date. Many fabricators group bending, powder coating, and painting operations as well to reduce tool, powder, and paint switching.

How is grouped work communicated to operators?

Work is grouped together into a single operation in Job Tracking to make it easy for operators to view what has already been grouped.

Why group work?

Putting work together splits setup and machine time between jobs, keeps work together, minimizes the amount of material changes you need to make, and enables you to use material more efficiently. Fulcrum keeps track of all the work going through the shop, so we make it easy to see work with similarities and group it together.
